The Miethke M.flow valve by Aesculap is an MRI compatible to 3T, adjustable, position independant flow regulating valve for the treatment of hydrocephalus in pediatic and adult patients. It operates on the principle of Poiseuille's law of laminar flow, in which flow is inversly proportional to the tubes length. For example, doubling the tubes length, halves the flow (assuming constant pressure and radius of the tube). Using this principle, the length of the channel traveled by the CSF can be varied by the rotation of the internal cam to alter the distance of travel, thereby altering flow rates.
