DESCRIPTION

The OSV II Flow Control Valves by Codman (now owned and distributed by Integra Lifesciences) is a CSF shunt valve with a flow regulation self-adjusting valve that works to maintain a constant flow rate despite changes in differential pressures caused by postural and vasogenic changes. This is done by a membrane that is pushed up or down based on differential pressure to maintain a stable flow. Flow is maintained by 3 stages of differential pressure:

  • Stage 1: Low differential pressure flow is maintained at 5-20ml/hr
  • Stage 2: Flow Regulation at around 20ml/hr when pressure is between 120 and 300 mmH2O
  • Stage 3: Pressure Relief Mode. Increased differential pressure causes increased flow up to 40ml/hr

Valve is available in several forms:

  • standard OSV II
  • OSV II Low profile
  • OSV II NPH Low Flow (functions at a lower flow rate of 10ml/hr at standard pressure range)

Other Features:

  • MRI compatible (no moving parts)
  • No imaging artifact
  • Postural control of vasogenic overdrainge
  • No need for programming
